TARAS PROKHASKO

TARAS PROKHASKO studied biology at Lviv University and took part in student protests for Ukraine’s independence in 1989-91. Prokhasko has worked as a radio operator, an editor, a bartender, the host of a radio program, a forester, a teacher, a gallery proprietor, a screen writer, a journalist, a video operator, and a gardener. He is the author of Inshi dni Anny (Anna’s Other Days, 1998), FM Halychyna (FM Galicia, 2001), NeprOsti (The UnSimple, 2002), Leksykon taiemnykh znan (Lexicon of Secretive Knowledge, 2005), Z tsioho mozhna bulo b zrobyty kilka opovidan (Could Have Made a Few Stories from This, 2005), and Port Frankivsk (2006). Prokhasko has also published a number of books in his Inshyi Format (A Different Format) series, which features interviews he has conducted with leading Ukrainian intellectuals. His novella “Necropolis” (1998) and novel The UnSimple (2007) have been translated into and published in English. Prokhasko’s books have also been translated into Polish, Russian, Serbian, and Czech. Prokhasko is a recipient of the Joseph Conrad Award (2007) and Korrespondent magazine’s Best Ukrainian Book Award (2006, 2007). He lives and works in Ivano-Frankivsk.

Taras Prokhasko’s events in the Contemporary Ukrainian Literature Series, entitled FM Galicia, took place in April 2010.
